The building is located at the beginning of the prestigious Viale del Poggio Imperiale, a residential area surrounded by greenery. The avenue starts at Piazza di Porta Romana, where the ancient medieval walls enclosing the historic centre of Florence (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) are located, and ends at the Villa Medicea del Poggio Imperiale (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Along the walls of Porta Romana is one of the entrances to the Boboli Gardens and Palazzo Pitti. In the square of Porta Romana and on Via Senese, the ancient Via Cassia to Siena, there are numerous shops of all kinds. At Porta Romana, there is a bus stop for buses going to the historic centre and the Santa Maria Novella railway station. There is also a bus stop for buses going outside Florence, towards Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra and other towns in the Chianti region.
